Day of Procedure Expectations
For pediatric patients:
You and your child will arrive at the office and check in with the front desk, similar to any other visit. After that, you will meet with one of our physician anesthesiologists. That doctor will interview you and your child, review the risks and benefits of anesthesia, and ask you to complete a small amount of paperwork.
When the procedure team is ready, we’ll bring you back to the treatment area. Once your child is comfortably settled, we will ask you to return to the waiting room. This is so that we can focus all of our attention on your child’s safety as she gets ready for anesthesia.
After the procedure, your child will be carefully monitored in a recovery area for a period of time until she is sufficiently alert. Following this, you will be reunited. Your anesthesiologist will wrap up with you and you’ll be ready to leave for home.
You can expect your child to feel somewhat tired for a few hours after the procedure, and it’s a good idea to take it easy for the rest of the day. You will be given a set of discharge instructions with additional details.
